Emotions
You're probably reading this partly thanks to your emotions.
When all is well with us, emotions are a source of vitality and connection.
Emotions are our bodies short hand for how we experience ourselves in the world.

If you have experienced loss, trauma, neglect or other challenges in your life, however, emotions can become a source of overwhelm, frustration or shame making us feel out of control, question our identity, and drain our energies.
Trauma
Trauma can impact us in different ways and we can experience a variety of different events as traumatic.

Trauma can be a single event or repeated exposure to harmful experiences.

Some examples of trauma include:
-
a car accident
-
bullying
-
sudden loss
-
illness
-
sexual assault
-
chiidhood abuse and neglect
-
emotional abuse
Let's Connect
I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to help you get to know me and if I might be a good fit to work with you.
Getting Started
Often people seek a therapist related to challenges they are having in their current relationships or trying to overcome the legacy of hurts, loss or neglect in past relationships. Drawing on attachment theory, I try to connect with you in a way that is respectful, warm and boundaried such that you can feel supported throughout your therapy work and with the issues you are wishing to address.
Getting past the past
I utilize a blend of different evidence based therapies such as CBT, DBT to help you learn about your triggers, develop skills to manage the overwhelm, and integrate evidence based trauma processing therapies such as EMDR therapy or Accelerated Resolution Therapy to help you reduce the distress, avoidance and freeze that may be interfering with your ability to move beyond your sticking points.
About Jeff:
I have been working as a therapist for 20 years in a community mental health setting.

Throughout my ongoing learning, I have found that my clients and colleagues have been my greatest teachers.
Prior to my professional experience, growing up in a small town taught me the value of connection as well as the humility and groundedness that comes with being seen at your best and worst moments.

I believe that the foundation of good therapy is being attuned to my clients and working with them to create a relationship where they feel valued and safe enough to take steps in addressing their unique goals.

I try to work from a place of compassion, authenticity, and a balance of humour.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family (including my Labradoodle, River), hiking and playing guitar.
